Meet the Twombly Family . . .
Welcome to Coyote Slide Ranch, home to Dan and Ann Twombly and family. We were high school sweethearts and have lived in western Nebraska all of our lives. We were blessed with three children, Alies, John, and Tia, who were each raised on the ranch where they learned to understand and appreciate the value of a hard day’s work. We are thankful our children continue to make Coyote Slide Ranch a place they can call home!
Dan began training and selling horses in 1975 and held our first horse auction in 1997. Our Twombly Performance Horse Sale was held twice a year and was a resounding success for 27 years! During this time, we developed a strong reputation for selling confident, reliable, top-quality horses — and in 2025, we decided to build on our reputation by shifting our focus to private treaty sales.
While our business model may have changed, our goal remains the same — offering great riding horses to the public — and our reputation for selling nice horses is stronger than ever! We do our very best to provide a great service to our customers by delivering a personalized buying experience that helps to match riders of all levels with their new riding partner. This approach has been very successful, and, in fact, roughly 35% of our sales have been to repeat buyers. Additionally, we continually receive updates on horses that were purchased from us years ago, which we believe speaks volumes on the quality of our horses and the satisfaction of our customers.
The more things change, the more they stay the same . . .
Today, we continue putting in a hard day’s work on the ranch and still enjoy every minute of what we do! Coyote Slide Ranch consists of a small herd of longhorn cows; several broodmares that produce beautiful foals with exceptional pedigrees; and, of course, our selection of top-quality geldings & mares that we train and sale via private treaty. We also have acres upon acres of fields that we use to put up our own alfalfa hay.
Over the years, our family has continued to grow — Alies and her husband Chase have four children, Tripp, Hayslee, Spurr, and Trell; and Tia and her husband Nate have three children, Rayner, Noah, and Arena. John has taken over the reins for most of our private treaty sales and is an integral part of the our Twombly Performance Horses business. We are fortunate to have our children living nearby, and what warms our hearts the most is seeing our grandchildren riding our horses, learning the ropes, and just enjoying ranch life!
Our passion for training great horses runs deep, and we pride ourselves in offering horses with great conformation, good color, and great minds. All of the horses we offer are owned by our family, with each one being ridden at our ranch, both in the arena and on the trails. Most of our horses are beginner or kid friendly, and we also sell to those who are looking for their next competitive partner.
